Two North Island Businesses

The Seattle Times covered our intrepid booksellers at Island Books, one of the better Puget Sound bookstores right on our generally retail-poor Island.  Got nothing to add except yes, it’s a fine, fine store and you should go visit.

And the P-I reports that Emerald City Smoothie is up for sale. It’s a shame, as that’s one of the few businesses you’d walk to in North Island. Thanks to Tom and Angela Napier, the owners, and good luck finding a buyer.

  1. More interesting would be to know why the Smoothie shop owners are selling.

  2. And on the subject of North Island businesses, here comes Freshy’s Seafood Market in the old 76 Union gas station at 76th & 24th.

Hey Bill, are you breaking the news that a seafood market is coming to Mercer Island? If so do elaborate!

  4. Well, it’s not exactly a big “scoop” since all I know is just what I learned in a short chat with the proprietor. He is a fisherman, and has chosen Mercer Island for his first foray into retailing. He and his crew have been working on cleaning up that old gas station for a few weeks, and hope to open for business in late July.

Bill, Mercer Island is a small town, and in a small town that’s a big scoop. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check it out.

  6. While you’re in that neighborhood, you might want to investigate the wine store coming to Tabit Square and Mo’s Restaurant slated for the 77 Central development.

Bill, you’re a font! What else do you have in there? Thanks again for the tips!

  8. Well, I don’t think you’ve yet covered the two retailers about to occupy the old Hollywood Video building. Coming in about two-thirds of the space is Mud Bay (pet foods and related stuff), and in the other third is Veloce Velo (top-of-the-line) bicycles (they currently have a shop in Issaquah).

Thankfully it looks like the building exterior is being redone to make it a bit more subtle than the previous Hollywood Video gaudiness.

Another fantastic tip. We really need a bike shop on Mercer Island.
