Mercer Island Thrift Store Perfect for Bad Economy, Bad Weather

A few weeks ago I finally stopped into the Mercer Island Thrift Store. You’ve probably driven by it a hundred times, right on the south side of Mercerdale.

They had all kinds of good stuff, like:

lamp A lamp,

candelabra a candelabra,

teapot and a clay teapot.

And a good books section. I got some garden books that were a bit out of date.

They had bikes in the front and a crib in the back, even a grammaphone:

There’s also a nice statue, though it’s not for sale.

I was wondering how it got started and asked one of the volunteers. He said, “I think this place was started back in the 60’s in someone’s garage. Now it’s part of the City and all the money goes to Youth and Family Services.”

Worth a visit.
